What you won’t find on these websites

  • Direct Purchasing & Purchase Card
  • Government cards are basically credit cards issued to federal government employees.
  • Local agencies sometimes have other terms for this such as purchase cards, p-cards, and may not mean a credit card but will mean authority for staff to spend.
  • Federal government – anything under $2,500.
  • Local agencies set their own policy.
  • Examples of how government cards are used,
  • Parks employee is working on a maintenance project and their tool breaks, they can often go to a near by store and buy a new tool.
  • A component breaks in an agency network and the network administrator needs to buy a technology component to bring the system back up.  It makes most sense to go to a near by store and buy the new part immediately (as long as it is under the dollar threshold).
  • Government cards should not be used for ongoing expenses such as regular office supply needs.
  • The government does not have to post everything. Under $25,000 for the federal government
  • Some purchases are not frequent .
  • Some opportunities are often listed as sub-contracts (especially areas of construction).
